Family Reunion
Here’s a few favorite photos from a family reunion I photographed in West Virginia in early August.

Last hurrah for 2010?
Well, March hasn’t yet arrived (I shot this on February 25) so it’s too early to say. Given the unpredictability of snowfall in Virginia I wanted to take advantage of the fading
opportunities to glide on the January and early February snow that’s finally disappearing. My neighbor’s hay field still has snow in patches, particularly on the north sloping tree lined areas. I’m really appreciating the capabilities of the Canon EOS 7D that I used to shoot this. I put the camera on a tripod and set the exposure mode to AV, matrix metering, with no compensation. Autofocus was set to AI-servo with auto select of all 19 focusing points. The drive was set to high speed continuous. I triggered the camera with a pair of Pocket Wizards. If you look closely you can see one of the Pocket Wizards in my right hand. The auto-focusing in particular of the 7D made this series of shots possible. Even though I’m moving towards the camera, the full resolution images show the focus on me is quite sharp in each frame. Eight frames per second was a nice feature as well. For those who may be unfamiliar, this is a flash video created from a series of still images.

Snow’s still the theme
I had hoped to be able to post a video with this entry. I have the video edited and ready to go, I just haven’t yet figured out how to make the file size small enough to post online. I’m not yet into YouTube…perhaps I should be. Since I can’t yet post the video here’s a slideshow of some still photos of winter scenes captured over the last two weeks.
